Accessibility

Everyone who handles sensitive documents should be able to redact them. We design the website and the app to be usable with a keyboard, a screen reader and large text.

    Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, which is the reference for the Americans with Disabilities Act, Ontario's AODA and the European Accessibility Act (EN 301 549).

    This website

    • Full keyboard navigation with a visible focus ring and a skip-to-content link
    • Text and controls meet WCAG AA contrast in light and dark themes
    • Semantic headings, landmarks and labels for screen readers
    • Respects reduced-motion settings; no autoplaying media
    • Works at 200% zoom and on small screens
  3. 03

    The RedactFirst app

    • VoiceOver (macOS) and Narrator (Windows) labels on controls and findings
    • Keyboard alternatives for reviewing, accepting and rejecting suggestions
    • Status is never shown by color alone: every state has a label and a symbol
    • Supports system text scaling up to 200%

    Known limitations

Drawing a new redaction box is easiest with a pointer. Keyboard users can move existing boxes with the arrow keys and add boxes through search (“find a word, mark every match”).
